Advantages of Choosing McGuire’s Barrier Lip Leveler in Greater Charlotte Area

Based on the latest U.S. Census Bureau statistics, Charlotte jumped in the rankings
of the country’s largest cities and the city’s outlying towns continue to grow at a
much faster pace. With its additional 13,151 residents between 2017 and 2018,
bringing its population to nearly 872,500, making it the 16th largest city in America.

Urbanization growth result is brought by the migration of people from rural to urban
areas, where people migrate to towns and cities in the hope of gaining a better
standard of living. Probably, one of the reasons for such economic growth is
Charlotte’s strategic location, ideally suitable for distribution and logistics operation
businesses specifically for loading docks.

Overhead Door Company of Charlotte, a Division of DuraServ Corp. has been
serving the residents of Charlotte for over 35 years installing the best quality
commercial and residential garage doors, garage door openers, dock equipment,
and corresponding accessories in and around the Great Charlotte area.

Living up to its reputation as ‘Largest North American Dealer ‘(2009-2018) with
Rytec products and ‘MHEDA MVP Award (2013-2018)’, creating a safe loading
dock environment is our greatest concern. We had been designing and building an
efficient and productive loading dock where employee safety is a top priority.

Overhead Door Company of Charlotte, offers one of their safety loading products -
McGuire’s Barrier Lip Leveler, the latest innovations and automated technology, to
minimize risk and create a safe working environment ideal for any type of business
applications.

What is a Barrier Lip Leveler?
Under OSHA 1910.26 safety requirement, all elevated work platforms should have
a safety barrier in place to prevent workers or forklift trucks from hazards or
accidents like falling off the edge. Safety barriers like leveler barrier lips are installed
on most pit-style loading dock levelers. Together with a leveler and an extension of
the lip, positioned several inches above the platform, can act as a barrier to prevent
trucks from driving over the edge.

Leveler barrier lips can stay in place until the truck trailer is safely positioned and the
workers can load and unload the trailer. Moreover, it helps prevent forklift trucks from
accidentally hitting the overhead door when closing.

McGuire’s Barrier Lip Leveler
McGuire’s Barrier Lip Leveler safely prevents forklifts, lift trucks, or trailer loads from
driving off the edge of the loading dock or loading bay in both the stored cross-traffic
and below dock end loading position. When in use in the back of a trailer the Barrier
Lip offers a smooth transition between the platform and lip. Moreover, it provides
protection while allowing processing of end load operations.

Highly effective when utilized with a McGuire hydraulic leveler and vehicle restraint,
the Barrier Lip offers the best combination for unsurpassed dock safety.

Around the Clock Protection
McGuire Barrier Lip is designed with superior structural steel ramp while in a stored
position, providing protection all the time while allowing end loading of a trailer with
the unit in a below dock position. Unlike others, end loading is still achievable with
the lip in a safety position. Suitably best for applications such as manufacturing,
heavy industrial applications, and high volume warehousing and distribution
applications, where working environments need speed at the same time providing
full-time protection.

Safety Measured
The barrier lip is engineered for the safety of the dockworkers and lift trucks, its full
dock width and 5” to 7” above the cross traffic position, provides a wider space and
protection, not to roll-off over the loading dock.

Assuring safety visibility, the McGuire Barrier Lip is painted in yellow paint to highlight
the Barrier Lip’s transparency even in night time operation where there is less lighting.

Built with Toughness
Strengthened with superior structural steel, the barrier lip can stop a 10,000 lb. impact
from a forklift truck at 4 mph, ensuring safety and protection to the workers and
company equipment.

Double Safety Measures
In the event of a premature truck departure, the barrier lip is programmed to
immediately move into a vertical position giving an extra safety to the working
environment.

Ideally best for businesses where there are high traffic workloads while at the same
time securing the safety of company assets. Such applications like manufacturing,
food and beverage, pharmaceuticals
refrigeration/cold storage and high volume warehousing and distribution, would profit
more and improve productivity in the long run.

Engineered Hydraulics
McGuire Barrier Lip is revolutionized with hydraulic design, such that when used with
the H or HP Series, a hydraulic main cylinder is used to raise the platform and a
separate lip cylinder is used to control the Barrier Lip.  The hydraulic pump,
manifold and translucent reservoirs are an integral assembly with hoses routed
under the platform away from debris. Suitably, for applications such as
manufacturing, food, retail, warehousing and distribution, where loading and loading
safety are top priorities.
